Being General Counsel for entrepreneurial SMEs has allowed me to see things with a greater commercial perspective and to deliver solutions which meet the needs of the business. I enjoy the challenge of working out what needs to be done and how.
Hello I'm Ian
WHY I LOVE WHAT I DO
THE EXPERIENCE I BRING
I’ve been working as a lawyer for over 25 years, initially in private practice and then as inhouse counsel for entrepreneurial SMEs.
I trained in London as a commercial litigator with Baker McKenzie and Mayer Brown before becoming a Partner at Blake Morgan. My desire to broaden my commercial skills and be closer to business led me to move inhouse, initially as General Counsel for an AIM listed international sports software company, whose clients included The Football Association, the LTA and the ECB.
More recently, I have acted as General Counsel to a boutique hotel and property development group, which allowed me get involved in a wide range of transactions, including acquisitions, re-organisations, refinancing projects, construction contracts, data protection and IP, leisure contracts and commercial property, as well as managing various types of disputes, including commercial, construction and consumer disputes.
WHEN I'M NOT WORKING
I like to keep active and enjoy cycling, golf, tennis and skiing.
I love languages and lived in Geneva for 4 years where I got to improve my French, as well as my skiing. I’m now taking Spanish lessons and learning how to teach English as a foreign language.
